In 2025 I visited Palm Springs, Cathedral City and Desert Hot Springs which gave me a taste of desert life. The San Jacinto Mountains with eternal snow gave a stark visual and sensorial contrast with the Spring temperatures, flowers and sun in the Coachella valley. While the Coachella Valley floor (Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indio) is known for its hot, arid desert climate and rarely sees snow, the surrounding mountains often feature "eternal" snow-capped peaks during Winter and Spring.

The desert is known for its changing light, winds, and colors. While driving through the Coachella Valley to visit historic homes I noticed the remarkable natural shifts in color that occur throughout the day in the desert area. Bright light, strong winds and stretches of desert made me more aware of how fleeting and dynamic light can be.
