solid handcast glass

For this series of glass sculptures I have used the shape of the brick as a building block. Architects Mies van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto and Le Corbusier for example, implemented the brick into their designs, using it as a module to build fast. For me the brick shape lends itself perfectly to create stacked and balanced sculptures, playing with different shapes and sizes to create elementary shapes, subtly referring to its use in modern architecture.

Instead of the typical stone brick I decide to use solid hand cast glass bricks in various shapes.

By using coloured glass bricks as a surface I could use the quality of its powerful translucent colors and illusionary depth, making them the perfect surface for my sculptures.
